I’m Officially Sold

I never thought the day would come.

As big a cinemaphile as I am, and as much a cornerstone of American cinema as the 007 movies are, I have never been a huge fan. I remember catching bits & pieces of Moonraker and Octopussy when I was younger, but I was never enthralled by them. I rented Casino Royale several months ago because I had heard so many good things about it. People who weren’t Bond fans were really digging this movie, so I watched it. And I’m so glad I did. It was different from the others. Daniel Craig did an absolutely amazing job. So much so that when I first saw trailers for Quantum of Solace in the theater, I was very much looking forward to seeing it. After watching it, I have to recognize the fact that the day has come. I’m sold. I love James Bond movies now.

I Laughed Out Loud

Family Guy is one of my favorite TV programs, and I love Seth Macfarlane’s humor. I came across this video and I just had to post it. Enjoy!

Finally!

After what seems like an eternity, Election Day is finally upon us. This year’s primaries and campaigns have been historic in many ways. Women have been at the center of the political fray for the first time since Mondale-Ferraro. And it was handled surprisingly well. I expected to hear a cacophony of voices supporting and opposing Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin solely based on their gender. I’m sure it went on, because there are far too many loud-mouthed morons in America (on both sides of the issue) for it not to seep out a little. But I’m glad that both Clinton and Palin were considered for their potential positions based on their leadership qualities and performance histories (in large part, at least).

Initially, there was much ado about the gender and race issues involved in this election. Fortunately the public discourse largely moved quickly past ruminations over who has more melanin or who has a vagina. At least it did for me because I refused to watch the endless coverage of trivial minutia that flooded our media outlets each day. I watched what was pertinent. I watched the speeches and the debates, making it a point to change the channel before the endless commentary from the pundits began. Thank you, o self-proclaimed gods of Olympus and guardians of all knowledge and wisdom. But, just the same, I’ll do my own critical analysis and form my own opinions. I realize this immediately puts me in the minority, but at least the company I keep isn’t chewing cud while they wait to be made into coats and purses and served up on a plate at Hardee’s.
